Education news at HSE University

What benefits does online learning have for students? What aspects of education should be reevaluated once the pandemic is over? How should we divide our working and personal time while in self-isolation? Representatives of HSE University’s Joint Department with the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, manager Margarita Grebenyuk, instructor Anastasia Lesnikova, and student Anna Naumova, share their experience with the department’s transition to online learning.

All full degree programmes, implemented at four HSE University campuses, received state accreditation for the next six years. The positive conclusions of experts and representatives of expert organizations have been published on the Rosobrnadzor website.

HSE Summer University will begin on July 15 this year. All courses will be taught online via Zoom. The registration deadline has been extended until July 1, 2020.

Though students of the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) only learned that their defenses would be moved to an online format a few weeks before the defense date, they showed impressive results. 134 projects developed by student teams collectively totaling 383 students were presented. Of them, the best 37 projects were recommended for participation in the annual MIEM Tech Show.

Denis Shilov, a second-year student of the HSE and University of London double degree bachelor’s programme in Data Science and Business Analytics, has developed Reface, a neuro interface that is able to control your smartphone by reading your facial expressions. He spoke with the HSE News Service about software development and the future of his project.

HSE Graduate School of Business will open on September 1 of this year. The Academic Council decided on the School’s creation within the framework of HSE University’s 2030 Development Programme, which aims at enhancing the University’s global competitiveness.

An online discussion on the topic of ‘New Higher Education: After the Period of Compulsory Remote Operation’ was held on April 27 as part of the Moscow International Education Fair MIEF-2020. The discussants included Dmitry Afanasiev, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education; Vladimir Mau, Rector of RANEPA; and Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of HSE University.

The HSE Art and Design School has launched a digital gallery, the HSE ONLINE GALLERY, for displaying the work of its students and instructors. One of the first projects completed by first-year students of the master's track in ‘Contemporary Art’ is entitled ‘Call Me Back on My Home Phone’.
