Graduate of HSE FIFA/CIES Programme in Sports Management Appointed Head Coach of FC Spartak Moscow
Oleg Kononov, who graduated from the HSE FIFA / CIES programme in 2018 and previously headed Arsenal Tula, has been appointed head coach of FC Spartak Moscow.
Oleg Kononov spent most of his playing career in Belarus, before moving on to coach several football clubs in the former Soviet republics, after which he achieved great success with a number of Russian teams. In 2015, FC Krasnodar, led by Kononov, won the Russian championship for the first time, and Kononov was given an award as best coach of the season.
In 2017, while working as head coach of ‘Ahmat’, Oleg Kononov enrolled onthe HSE FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management. During his studies, he was appointed coach of Tula Arsenal. The final group project, which Oleg Kononov prepared together with other students of the programme, was dedicated to the prospects for developing mini-football. He came third in the final project competition.
‘The knowledge I gained in sports management, sports communications, law, and economics gave me the opportunity to take an innovative look at my professional activity,’ says Oleg Kononov.
On November 14, the new programme cycle starts, and Oleg Kononov will return as one of the masterclass speakers.
HSE is the only Russian partner of the FIFA/CIES international university network. The ‘Executive Programme in Sports Management’ joint programme of professional retraining was launched in 2014 and is held at HSE Moscow and St. Petersburg. Training is divided into several modules, and the classroom-based training within each module only lasts a few days. Certification is carried out in the form of a group project defense. Lectures are conducted by renowned experts in sports management, marketing, finance, law, and medicine, as well as practicing coaches and athletes.

43 students from two HSE campuses received a professional retraining certificate from the HSE Executive Programme in Sports Management together with a CIES/FIFA diploma this year. The students had the opportunity to attend lectures both in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where they were broadcast live. The final, sixth, module of the programme was taught in Pushkino near St. Petersburg. The graduates prepared their degree projects together.

FIFA President Awarded HSE Sports Management Graduates
Graduates of the joint FIFA/CIES – HSE programme in Sports Management have won the FIFA/CIES Network Prize for 2016 for their 360º Academy project. The winners were awarded their prize by Gianni Infantino.

The HSE Sports Management graduates’ project for new style sports academies was named the best project of the international network FIFA/CIES in 2015 by a jury at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich on January 14th.
