Students from Russia, Germany, China, Turkey, and Brazil Take Part in Historical Intensive Course at HSE University–St Petersburg
From pre-Petrine times to Soviet neighbourhoods, students from Russia, Brazil, Turkey, China, and Germany spent three weeks studying the multi-layered history of St Petersburg not just in the classroom but also on the city streets. The participants of the International Summer School at HSE University–St Petersburg visited imperial residences and Soviet communal apartments, Orthodox and Lutheran churches, the historical centre and residential areas.

Civic Identity Helps Russians Maintain Mental Health During Sanctions
Researchers at HSE University have found that identifying with one’s country can support psychological coping during difficult times, particularly when individuals reframe the situation or draw on spiritual and cultural values. Reframing in particular can help alleviate symptoms of depression. The study has been published in Journal of Community Psychology.

Hack Summer’25: An Easy Start to Student Life
HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod has hosted Hack Summer, an annual festival for students of the International Bachelor's in Business and Economics. The event helps first-year students learn more about the university and prepare for busy academic life. In addition to the entertainment programme, special attention was paid this year to the development of skills necessary for today’s students.

HSE Doctoral Student Awarded for Best PhD Presentation at 58th Societas Linguistica Europaea Conference
From August 26–29, 2025, the largest annual linguistics conference, Societas Linguistica Europaea, took place in Bordeaux, France. Doctoral students and researchers from HSE University took part in the event. The paper ‘Lability Drift in Modern Aramaic languages’ by Elena Shvedova was highly praised by the expert community and took first place among PhD student presentations. In an interview with the HSE News Service, Elena Shvedova spoke about her research and the conference itself.

‘You Are Our Future’: HSE Rector Visits Perm Campus on Knowledge Day
On September 1, 2025, Rector Nikita Anisimov visited the HSE Campus in Perm. During his trip, he took part in the opening ceremony of the new academic year and attended the traditional assembly of the HSE Lyceum in Perm.

‘Neural Networks Can Provide Assessments As Accurate As Humans’
Voice assistants have become part of everyday life. They can plan routes, play music and films, and answer questions. But the quality of their speech requires assessment. To address this, students of the Applied Artificial Intelligence Workshop at the HSE University and VK Engineering and Mathematics Schoolhave developed neural networks capable of evaluating speech synthesis.

Registration for AIDAO Student AI Olympiad Now Open
The HSE University Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) and Yandex Education are pleased to announce that registration for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) is now open. Participants will be able to put their skills to the test by solving real tasks from leading laboratories and services, as well as compete for cash prizes and admission benefits when applying to study at the FCS.
