On April 18, 2014 the well-known New York city activist Daniel Latorre delivered a lecture at the HSE Graduate School of Urban Studies. Latorre spoke about ‘Digital Placemaking & Moving to Place-based Governance’. The lecture focused on modern digital technologies (primarily social networks), which can help reach urban residents, strengthening both horizontal ties among communities and vertical communications with city administrations.

Daniel Latorre was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He graduated from the University of Minnesota majoring in Cultural Studies & Comparative Literature.  Latorre is designer and urban activist, who has been working for more than 15 years in design and urban development at Razorfish, Funny Garbage, and BBDO. Latorre also takes part in Participatory Budgeting NYC. He is the author of the social project ‘The Wise City’, which is aimed at improving urban amenities.
